Public transport network of Düsselforf, known as Düsseldorf Stadtbahn comprises light train, metro, tram and buses. The operator in charge of them is Rheinbahn, integrated within the transport association Rhein-Ruhr(VRR).
Like the city of Dortmund was included in the overall plan for the Rhein -Ruhr Stadtbahn in 1970. For the city of Düsseldorf, wich is divided for the Rhine river was envisaged a four way tunnel through the center of the city from east to west, and to the east branches to the central station( Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof). One branch continues eastward to Düsseldorf-Eller and another 2 kms continues southeast to Düsseldorf-Oberbilk. and beyond the existing route to Holthausen. In the north of Heinrich-Heine-Allee the shared underground section also branches. One branch crosses the Rhine river bridge in Neuss and Krefel Oberkassel and the other branch continues underground until Victoriaplatz surface and them follows the route of the old interurban tram to Duisburg. The Düsseldorf Stadtbahn opened in 1981 and currently has seven lines and ninety eight stations.
Currently there are seven lines with a total of ninety eight stations operated by Rheinbahn.
The Stadtbahn is in service from 04.15 a.m to midnight. (until 02.30 a.m on fridays and saturdays)
Within the town of Düsseldorf all lines run every 10 minutes, (except the section betwen Heinrich-Heine-Allee where the frequency is higher, one train every few minutes). Outside the town the line U79 to Duisburg and the line U75 to Neuss every 10 minutes and U76 to Krefeld every 20 minutes..
Like Dortmund, Düsseldorf is part of the VRR tariff (Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr).Ticket prices are divided by zones. Zone A for the town of Düsseldorf and zone B and C for the suburbs.
